Disney and Marvel Studios have just revealed the latest teaser for the much awaited Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, and it is an awesome visual treat. The minute and a quarter teaser is jam packed with so many visual goodies (Baby Groot is absolutely cool in his new jacket!), one can easily lose sight of the video’s subtle hints. Thanks to the keen eye of the Nerdist, we now have insight on some of the possibilities and plot lines of this GoTG instalment. Here’s the teaser trailer once again in case you missed it.
If this teaser is mind-blowing on its own, Director James Gunn has also confirmed that the 1st official trailer for GoTG 2 will be out anytime soon. For the meantime, let’s take a look at the hidden details in the teaser courtesy of the Nerdist.
A couple of months ago, Empire Magazine hinted on a new, furry tentacled space monster that the Guardians will eventually have to confront. This critter known as the Abilisk, was revealed in a concept art published in the April issue of Empire.
The hairy octo-monster seems to be one of the creatures that the gang has to deal up with, though it is unclear yet on how this encounter fits in the over-all plot of the film. The teaser seems to confirm this confrontation as Gamora springs into action at around the 25-second mark.
Yondu’s famed Yaka arrow is brutally fast and efficient that one can easily miss it even in this teaser trailer. At around 28 seconds of the trailer, you can have a glimpse of this speedy arrow if you’re fast enough in hitting the space bar. As it turns out, Yondu is joined by Rocket in an infiltration mission on what seems to be a highly guarded facility. Since we already know that Nebula will eventually join the Guardians in this sequel, and considering that the next frame reveals her as somewhat like a captive with a sack removed from her head, it is fair to say that the break-in mission that Yondu and Rocket has embarked on has something to do with Nebula’s rescue from an intergalactic space prison.
Of Course Baby Groot!
Who could have missed every GoTG fan’s most favorite sprout? We simply love this shot of him playing peek-a-boo behind Rocket. That is something that I want to see if ever I will be rescued from prison. Sporting a new jacket, it seems Groot decided to tag along with his buddies during Nebula’s apparent rescue mission. If you look closely at the first frame below, you’ll notice that Rocket is still using the same triple barrel handgun that he was holding as they walk past amidst floating guards. Yondu’s Yaka arrow is also seen in the left side background still weaving past panicked guards.
Ego the Living Planet
Director James Gunn literally surprised everyone when he revealed during the GoTG panel at the San Diego Comic Con last July that he is willing to deviate from Marvel canon and introduce an unlikely character in the film in the person of the living planet, Ego played by Kurt Russel. The twist: the planetary sentient being is Peter Quill’s (aka Star Lord) father. Russel’s character wasn’t revealed yet in the teaser, but judging from what Gunn announced during the SDCC panel, it was shown that the godlike Ego has the ability to transform himself into a human person or any other lesser being in order to communicate with them. If there is any hint about Ego in this teaser is the fact that Gamora, Quill, and Drax seems to be on a separate mission where they probably landed on a small section of the living planet as suggested by these frames. Their arrival wasn’t really that much welcomed though.
Launched ahead of its first teaser, we also get a very cool poster of the Guardians with Nebula and Yondu joining the gang. Don’t forget Baby Groot as well.
