The Disney Channel series Shake It Up borrows from the "show within a show" concept from another Disney series, Sonny With a Chance. The series' premise involves the adventures of best friends CeCe Jones and Rocky Blue, dancers on a teen-based musical variety show, "Shake It Up Chicago."
Often resembling the Disney Channel smash hit Hannah Montana, Shake It Up is a female "buddy" program aimed at the same teen demographic as the Miley Cyrus vehicle. Much like counterparts Hannah Montana, Phineas and Ferb and Jonas L.A., the recent popularity of dance and music-based programs is the driving force behind Shake It Up. Several cast members have recorded original music, and the show's theme song, "Shake It Up" was recorded by another Disney stablemate, Selena Gomez.
The program follows CeCe and Rocky as they pursue their dreams of becoming professional dancers, at the same time dealing with the everyday challenges of typical teenage life.
