Davy Crockett and the River Pirates

Fess Parker reprises his signature role as the title character in Walt Disney's 1956 adventure film, Davy Crockett and the River Pirates. Co-starring Buddy Ebsen as Crockett's sidekick Georgie Russell, the film tells the story of the pair trying to get their haul of fur pelts to the Mississippi River in order to take them to market. The captain of a keelboat they hope to make passage on tries to charge them an exorbitant fee, and then gets Georgie drunk and challenges him and Crockett to a keelboat race with the pelts as the prize. Despite the captain's underhanded tactics, Crockett and Georgie win the race.
Double-crossing river bandits, Chickasaw Indians, river pirates masquerading as Indians, and kegs of gunpowder all enter into the equation in a thrill-a-minute adventure that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. An effective score by Thomas W. Blackburn and George Bruns blends well with the on-screen action.
