Starring Armie Hammer as the legendary masked man and Johnny Depp as his faithful Native American companion Tonto, Walt Disney Pictures production of "The Lone Ranger" mixes adventure, Old West action and even comedy in retelling the mythical story of one of America's most favorite "do-gooder" duos. "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski calls the shots and co-produced along with Jerry Bruckheimer.
Told from Tonto's viewpoint, the film tracks the life and times of lawman John Reid as he (along with Tonto) takes on the rampant corruption and greed of the untamed Wild West. The circumstances leading to the unlikely pair teaming up serves as an early focal point of the film, with their decidedly totally opposite backgrounds providing plenty of opportunity for humor, sometimes unintended.
Depp's trademark total immersion into his roles will no doubt be utilized to the fullest, while Hammer's stoic tendencies provide an effective counterpoint.
