Based on a true story, Million Dollar Arm is a sports biographical film that relates the real-life tale of two Indian cricket players who are "discovered" and brought to the U.S. in the hopes of transforming them into American baseball pitchers. The Walt Disney Pictures production is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Jon Hamm, Bill Paxton, Alan Arkin, Suraj Sharma and Madhur Mittal.
Hamm portrays J.B. Bernstein, an opportunistic American sports agent who stages a reality sports contest in India with the idea of finding exceptional athletic candidates to try out for U.S. professional baseball. He discovers and signs two potential prospects and brings them to the U.S. Trying to overcome the vast cultural and language differences are just a small sampling of the obstacles the two encounter, while Bernstein, although well-intentioned, comes to realize his quest isn't as simple as it appears. However, the pair eventually sign contracts with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the first native Indians to do so, while Bernstein goes on to become a successful sports marketing entrepeneur.
