The 1997 Walt Disney Pictures production, Rocket Man, is a science-fiction comedy about a manned space mission to Mars. The Johnson Space Center in Texas provided the majority of the background location for filming, with Utah's Moab Valley serving as the Mars landscape.
Through a series of foul-ups and personnel failures, computer programmer Fred Randall is assigned a seat on NASA's first manned Mars mission. Outwitted for his sleep-chamber by a NASA chimpanzee, Randall is forced to use the chimp's "chimp-sized" facility and is unable to sleep.
Upon landing on Mars, a series of misadventures seem to accompany Randall at every step, leaving himself, and the entire mission, teetering on the edge of disaster. However, the crew successfully complete their mission, although the chimp once again commandeers Randall's sleep-chamber for the return to Earth.
Rocket Man's cast includes Harland Williams, Jessica Lundy, William Sadler, Jeffrey DeMunn and Beau Bridges. Stuart Giliard directed.
