Westward Ho, The Wagons!
NR | 90 min | Thursday, December 20, 1956
Disney regular Fess Parker stars in the 1956 live-action drama Westward Ho, The Wagons!, a family-oriented Western adventure that recounts the saga of a group of families making the trek across the Great Plains to Oregon. Rampaging Pawnee Indians threaten the wagon train and forces them to seek alternate routes. Hostile Indians are only part of the travails they encounter: Severe weather conditions and the stress and strain of the cross-country journey combine to make every mile an extreme effort.
During a stop at Fort Laramie, the group's children make friends with Sioux children, forging a mutual bond that carries over to the adults. Parker, as the caravan's "doctor", tends selflessly to the Sioux chief's injured son, and in return, Sioux warriors escort the wagon train to their destination.
Several familiar faces are in the cast, including George Reeves (TV's Superman), Kathleen Crowley, Sebastian Cabot and Iron Eyes Cody. Directed by William Beaudine, Westward Ho, The Wagons! was filmed at the Janss Conejo Ranch in California.
